Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how K53 South Africa (“we”, “us”, “our”), operating this website at k-53.co.za, collects, uses, and protects information when you use our service. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Introduction

K53 South Africa is a free educational website that helps South Africans prepare for their learner’s and driver’s licence tests. We provide practice questions, road sign guides, rules of the road, and study material based on the official K53 manual. We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the site.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information. Specifically:

Quiz Progress (Local Storage)

When you take practice quizzes on this site, your progress and scores may be saved in your browser’s localStorage. This data is stored entirely on your own device and is never transmitted to our servers. We have no access to it. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Contact Form

If you submit a message via our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the message you send. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list or share your details with third parties.

Server Logs

Like all web servers, our hosting provider automatically logs standard information including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit. This data is used for security monitoring and performance analysis only and is not linked to any personal identity.

3. Cookies and Caching

K53 South Africa does not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics (such as Google Analytics). We do not profile your behaviour or sell any data.

Our site uses a service worker for offline caching, which stores static assets (CSS, JavaScript, images) in your browser’s cache to speed up page loads and allow limited offline use. This is a technical performance feature, not a tracking mechanism. No personal information is stored in the cache.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Contact form messages are sent to us via email and used only to respond to your enquiry. We retain them for as long as the conversation is relevant and then delete them.
  • Quiz progress is stored locally in your browser only and is used to show you your scores and progress. We cannot access this data.
  • Server logs are used to monitor server health, diagnose technical problems, and protect the site from abuse. Logs are retained for a standard period set by our hosting provider.

We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party infrastructure providers:

  • Hostinger — our web hosting provider. Hostinger processes server logs and stores uploaded files on our behalf. Hostinger is subject to its own privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare — our DNS and CDN provider. Cloudflare processes web traffic at the network level for security and performance. Cloudflare is subject to its own privacy policy.

We do not currently use any advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, or third-party analytics platforms.

6. Data Retention

  • Contact form messages: retained for as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry, then deleted. We do not keep a permanent database of contact form submissions.
  • Server logs: retained for the period set by our hosting provider (typically 30–90 days), then automatically deleted.
  • Quiz progress: stored in your browser only. We hold no copy and have no ability to delete it on your behalf — you control it entirely via your browser settings.

We do not maintain user accounts, so there is no profile data to retain or delete.

7. Your Rights Under POPIA

The Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) gives South African data subjects the following rights:

  • Right to access — you may request confirmation of whether we hold any personal information about you and a copy of that information.
  • Right to correction or deletion — you may request that we correct inaccurate information or delete your personal information where we no longer have a lawful basis to retain it.
  • Right to object — you may object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Right to complain — you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your rights have been infringed.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with POPIA.

8. Children’s Privacy

K53 South Africa is an educational resource open to users of all ages, including learners who are 17 years old and preparing for their first licence test. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. Our site does not require registration, and no personal data is collected during normal use. If a minor submits a contact form message, that message is handled with the same care as any other message and is used only to respond to the enquiry.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Contact Us
